Self Sponsored Visa UAE 2026: Every Route to Sponsor Yourself — Golden Visa, Retirement, Property, Partner, Green and Remote Work Visas, Costs and Family Sponsorship
A self sponsored visa UAE residents can get means you hold your own residence. You qualify through property, savings, your own company, your income or your age. In 2026 there are six routes: the 10-year Golden Visa, the 5-year retirement visa, the 2-year Dubai property investor visa, the investor or partner visa, the Green Visa and the remote work visa. This guide compares them, shows the government fees, explains which routes let you sponsor your family and which route fits whom.

🧭 What is a self-sponsored visa in the UAE?
Most residents are sponsored by an employer, a spouse or a parent. A self-sponsored visa is different: you are the sponsor of your own residence. People who search for a sponsor visa Dubai option usually want exactly this — to live in the UAE without an employer, keep the visa when they change jobs, or retire here. The condition is not a salary but an asset or an income: property, a bank deposit, a company share, freelance income or a salary paid from abroad.

👑 How do I sponsor myself with a 10-year Golden Visa?
The 10-year golden visa is the strongest self-sponsored residence. You qualify through one of several routes, and you can sponsor your spouse, children and parents for the same 10 years. Golden Visa holders can also stay outside the UAE for more than 6 months without losing the residence.
Can I combine properties to reach AED 2 million?
Yes, if all the properties are in your own name. Since 14 July 2026 a co-owner's share — including your spouse's — can no longer be added to yours. Read more in the portfolio merging change.
🌴 Who can get the 5-year retirement visa?
The 5-year retirement visa is for people aged 55 or over. Through property, you need AED 1 million in property in your own name, ready or off-plan; no proof of retirement is needed. The official pages also list two other ways in: AED 1 million in savings, or a monthly income of AED 20,000 (AED 15,000 in Dubai). Your spouse and children are sponsored for the same 5 years. Details and fees: 5-year retirement visa through Dubai property.
🏢 Can I get a self-sponsored visa with a small property in Dubai?
Yes. The 2-year property investor visa no longer has a minimum value in Dubai — the old AED 750,000 rule was removed in April 2026. If the property is co-owned, each owner's share must be above AED 400,000, and each owner applies separately. Off-plan property counts with the Oqood; ready property with the title deed. The visa is renewed every 2 years while you still own the property. Full guide: 2-year property investor visa in Dubai.
💼 Can a company owner sponsor himself in the UAE?
Yes. A partner or investor takes his investor visa through his own mainland or free zone company. Your own residence comes from the company; to sponsor your family, the company MOA must show your own share above AED 75,000 — a salary is not needed. The visa is normally issued for 2 years. See our family visa guide for investors and partners.

🟢 Is the Green Visa or a freelance visa a good self-sponsored option?
The green visa is a 5-year self-sponsored residence for three groups: freelancers with a MOHRE freelance permit, a degree and self-employment income of AED 360,000 a year over the last two years; skilled employees with a degree and a salary of AED 15,000; and investors with an approved investment of AED 1 million. A freelance visa from a free zone is another way to work for yourself.
💻 Who can get the UAE remote work visa?
The remote work visa is a 1-year residence for people who keep working for an employer or their own company outside the UAE. You need an income of at least USD 3,500 a month, health insurance valid in the UAE and — since 27 January 2026 — six months of bank statements instead of three. Official pages say a spouse and children can be sponsored; in practice the authority decides case by case. The fees are those shown in the GDRFA or ICP system when you apply.
