Amer Center Dubai: services, timings, fees & locations

An Amer center (or Amer centre) is a private, government-authorised service centre for Dubai visa and residency work. It is not a government office: the centre types and submits your application, and GDRFA Dubai decides.

The basics

What is an Amer center?

Amer (آمر) is the customer-service brand of GDRFA Dubai, the authority that issues and renews visas in the emirate of Dubai. An Amer centre is a walk-in service centre that carries that brand.

At an Amer centre, trained staff check your documents, type your application into GDRFA’s system, take the payment and hand you a receipt with your application number. Entry permits, residence visas, renewals, cancellations, changes of status, family and Golden visa files — if it is a Dubai visa transaction, an Amer centre can submit it. Many centres also handle paperwork for other departments under the same roof, such as Emirates ID and medical fitness applications.

Why do Amer centres exist? Until 2017 this work was spread across hundreds of small typing centres, each working in its own way. GDRFA opened the first Amer centre in Al Muhaisnah 4 in May 2017 to replace them with one-stop centres that follow a single standard, and in November 2017 it stopped ordinary typing centres in Dubai from processing visa applications. By mid-2024 the network had grown to 75 branches — including five lounges and two branches at Dubai Airports — and handled more than 4.9 million transactions in 2023.

One thing surprises most people: an Amer centre is not a government office.

  1. May 2017First Amer centre opens in Al Muhaisnah 4.
  2. November 2017Ordinary typing centres in Dubai stop processing visa applications.
  3. 2022GDRFA reports that Amer centres are staffed entirely by UAE nationals.
  4. 202475 branches across Dubai, including lounges and airport branches.
Government or private?

Is an Amer center a government office? No.

Amer centres are private businesses. GDRFA Dubai licenses them, supervises them and lets them work on its system — but it does not own them. The simplest way to think of an Amer centre: a government-authorised typing centre.

How do we know? GDRFA Dubai’s own website has a service called “Apply for new Amer centre”, open to investors who meet its requirements. Gulf News has described Amer and Tasheel centres as private or semi-private centres supervised by government departments. See the sources.
The same is true of us. FamilyVisa.ae (800 DOCS LLC) is a private, DET-licensed UAE visa services company too — not a government office and not an Amer centre. We prepare and submit applications online, through the official channels, on our customers’ behalf.

What an Amer centre does not do

  • Decide your visa. Only GDRFA can approve or reject an application.
  • Work permits and labour contracts. Those belong to the labour ministry, MOHRE, and are handled at Tasheel centres.
  • The medical test or Emirates ID fingerprints. The centre only types the application — you still visit a medical fitness or Emirates ID centre.
  • Visas issued by other emirates. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the northern emirates use the federal authority, ICP — see below.
  • Attest your certificates. Marriage and birth certificates must already be attested before you apply.

Opening hours

Amer center timings.

There is no single timetable: every centre is a separate business and sets its own hours. This is the usual pattern.

Most days
Around 8:00 am – 8:00 pm. A few centres open at 9:00 am.
Friday
Usually open, with a break for midday prayers — roughly 12:00 to 2:30 pm.
Weekly day off
Varies. Many centres close on Saturday or on Sunday; some open all seven days.
Centres in malls
Often follow the mall’s hours and may stay open later in the evening.
Ramadan & holidays
Shorter hours. GDRFA announces its own schedule before Ramadan and each Eid.
24 hours
Amer247 in Deira advertises round-the-clock service, pausing for Friday prayers. GDRFA’s own customer happiness centre in the arrivals hall of Dubai Airport Terminal 3 is open 24/7.
Phone & online
The Amer call centre on 800 5111 and GDRFA’s website and app work 24/7.
Hours change without notice. In our finder, tap the directions button to open the centre’s Google Maps listing and check today’s hours — or call before you go.
Cost

Amer center fees: what you actually pay.

Every receipt from an Amer centre is made of two parts. Knowing which is which makes it easy to compare.

1

The government fee

Set by the authorities. It is the same at every Amer centre — and the same if you apply online yourself. It changes with the type of visa, how long it runs, whether the applicant is inside or outside the UAE, and any urgent option you choose.

2

The centre’s service charge

Added by the centre for typing and handling your file. It differs from centre to centre and from service to service, and lounge or VIP counters cost more. Ask for an itemised receipt before you pay.

What you pay = government fee + the centre’s service charge

Documents checklist

What to carry to an Amer center.

Keep your passport, Emirates ID, visa copy, passport photo and supporting documents ready. The exact list depends on the service, so confirm it with the centre before you go.

Passport Emirates ID Visa copy Photo Supporting documents
Passport, Emirates ID, visa copy, passport photo and supporting documents to carry to an Amer center
  • 1 PassportsThe sponsor’s original passport and a clear copy of the applicant’s passport, valid for at least six months.
  • 2 Emirates IDThe sponsor’s original Emirates ID — and the applicant’s, if they already have one.
  • 3 Visa copyThe applicant’s current visa, e-visa or entry permit — if they already have one.
  • 4 PhotoA recent passport-size photo with a white background.
  • 5 Proof of relationshipFor family visas: marriage certificate for a spouse, birth certificate for each child — attested in the home country and by UAE MOFA.
  • 6 Salary proofFor sponsors: your labour contract or salary certificate, showing that you meet the salary rule for sponsoring.
  • 7 Company papersFor company files: trade licence, establishment card and the authorised signatory’s documents.
Start attestation early. It usually takes longer than the visa itself. Step-by-step lists for each visa: family visa, newborn visa, Golden visa and domestic worker visa.
Step by step

Before you visit an Amer center.

Check the required documents, the service type, the fees and the branch timing before you go. A little preparation avoids a second trip. Here is how a visit works, in six steps.

Check requirements Confirm fees Choose branch Verify timing
Laptop with a visit checklist and printed documents prepared before visiting an Amer center
1

Check what your transaction needs

Confirm the documents and whether certificates must be attested first. A missing paper usually means a second trip.

2

Choose a centre and walk in

Most centres need no appointment: take a token and wait for a counter. Some have a lounge or VIP desk for a higher charge.

3

The application is typed

The staff check your documents and enter the details into GDRFA’s system. Read the screen or the draft carefully — a wrong letter in a name or a passport number causes real delays later.

4

Pay and keep the receipt

You pay the government fees plus the centre’s service charge and receive a receipt with your application number.

5

GDRFA reviews and decides

The result arrives by SMS or email. You can also follow it on GDRFA’s website or app, by calling Amer on 800 5111, or with our guide to checking your UAE visa status.

6

Finish the remaining steps

A residence visa also needs a medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics. Find medical and Emirates ID centres near you.

Is there an Amer centre in Sharjah, Ajman or Abu Dhabi?

No. Amer belongs to GDRFA Dubai, and its official directory lists Amer centres in the emirate of Dubai only.

Visa issued in DubaiGDRFA Dubai · Amer centres, website and app
Visa issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or FujairahICP · ICP website, UAEICP app, ICP centres and registered typing offices

What matters is where your visa was issued, not where you live. If your residence visa is a Dubai visa, your file is with GDRFA Dubai and you use an Amer centre in Dubai — even if you live in Sharjah or Ajman. The centres in Al Qusais and Al Twar are close to the Sharjah border.

If your visa was issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, your file is with the federal authority, ICP. You apply through the ICP website or the UAEICP app, an ICP customer happiness centre, or a typing office registered with ICP.

Websites that call themselves “Amer centre Sharjah” are usually private typing offices, or Dubai centres advertising to Sharjah residents — not a separate branch of Amer.

Common questions

Amer center FAQ.

What is an Amer center?
An Amer center (also written Amer centre, Arabic: آمر) is a privately run service centre in Dubai that GDRFA Dubai — the emirate's immigration authority — has licensed to type and submit visa and residency applications. You go there for entry permits, residence visas, renewals, cancellations and changes of status. The centre prepares and files the application; GDRFA makes the decision.
Is an Amer center a government office?
No. Amer centres are privately owned businesses. GDRFA Dubai authorises and supervises them, and its website even has a service for investors who want to open a new Amer centre. The staff type your application into GDRFA's system and collect the fees, but only GDRFA — the government — can approve, reject or issue a visa.
What services can I get at an Amer center?
Dubai visa and residency work: entry permits for family, work or visit; new residence visas, renewals and cancellations; change of status inside the UAE; family, newborn, domestic-worker and Golden visa files; establishment cards and other company immigration services; and the typing of Emirates ID and medical fitness applications. Many centres also handle other government paperwork under the same roof.
What are Amer center timings?
There is no single timetable, because each centre is a separate business. Most open at about 8 am and close at about 8 pm, with a break for Friday prayers and one weekly day off, often Saturday or Sunday. Centres inside malls may stay open later, and hours are shorter in Ramadan and on public holidays. Check the centre's Google Maps listing or call before you travel.
Is there a 24-hour Amer centre in Dubai?
One Amer centre in Deira — Amer247, behind Abu Baker Al Siddique metro station — advertises 24-hour opening with a break for Friday prayers; confirm with the centre before you go. GDRFA's own customer happiness centre in the arrivals hall of Dubai Airport Terminal 3 works around the clock, the Amer call centre on 800 5111 answers 24/7, and GDRFA's website and app never close.
Do I need an appointment to visit an Amer center?
Usually not. Most Amer centres work on a walk-in basis: you take a token and wait for a counter. Some also run a lounge or VIP desk with faster service for a higher charge. If you are short of time, call the centre first and ask when it is quiet.
How much does an Amer center charge?
You pay two things. The government fee is set by the authorities and is the same at every centre — and the same if you apply online yourself. On top of it, the centre adds its own service (typing) charge, which differs by service and by centre. Ask for an itemised receipt before you pay. Our free visa cost calculator shows the government fees for your case.
What documents should I take to an Amer center?
It depends on the service. As a rule, take the sponsor's original passport and Emirates ID, a copy of the applicant's passport and a white-background photo. For a family visa add the attested marriage or birth certificate and salary proof such as your labour contract or salary certificate. Companies need the trade licence and establishment card. Ask the centre for the exact list for your transaction.
Is there an Amer centre in Sharjah, Ajman or Abu Dhabi?
No. Amer is a GDRFA Dubai service, and its official directory lists Amer centres in the emirate of Dubai only. Visas issued by Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates are handled by the federal authority, ICP, through its website, app, customer happiness centres and registered typing offices. If you live in Sharjah but hold a Dubai visa, use an Amer centre in Dubai — the ones in Al Qusais and Al Twar are close to the Sharjah border.
What is the difference between Amer and Tasheel?
They serve different authorities. Amer centres handle immigration work for GDRFA Dubai — entry permits, residence visas and changes of status — in Dubai only. Tasheel centres handle labour work for the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) — work permits and labour contracts — across the UAE. Hiring an employee for a mainland company usually involves both.
Amer center vs typing center: what is the difference?
An ordinary typing centre is a private office that types forms, letters and applications for many departments. An Amer centre is a typing and service centre specially licensed by GDRFA Dubai for visa and residency work, with access to its system. In November 2017 GDRFA stopped ordinary typing centres in Dubai from processing visa applications and moved that work to Amer centres.
Can I apply online instead of visiting an Amer center?
Yes. For most services GDRFA Dubai lists two channels: its digital channels — the website and smart app, open 24/7 — and Amer centres during working hours. You can submit the application yourself online with UAE Pass, or ask a DET-licensed visa services company such as FamilyVisa.ae to prepare and submit it for you. Our service fee is separate from the government fees.
What is the Amer contact number?
The official Amer call centre of GDRFA Dubai is toll-free on 800 5111 inside the UAE and answers 24/7. From abroad, call +971 4 313 9999, or email amer@gdrfad.gov.ae. These are government contacts, not ours. Each Amer centre also has its own phone number — you will find it on the centre's Google Maps listing.
How do I find the nearest Amer center?
Open our free Amer near me finder. Allow location access or pick your area, and it sorts the Amer centres in Dubai by distance, each with one-tap Google Maps directions. GDRFA Dubai also publishes the official directory of Amer centres on its website, under customer happiness centres.
Is FamilyVisa.ae an Amer center?
No. FamilyVisa.ae is operated by 800 DOCS LLC, a DET-licensed UAE visa services company in Dubai. We are not an Amer centre and not affiliated with GDRFA, ICP or any Amer centre listed on this site. We prepare and submit applications through the official channels on the customer's behalf, and you can always apply directly yourself.
