UAE Visa Amnesty (2026): Is There an Amnesty for Visa Violators Now, Who Qualified in 2024, and What Overstayers and Families Should Do Without One
A UAE visa amnesty is a time-limited decision that lets residency violators settle their status or leave without paying overstay fines. In October 2026 no general amnesty is active. The last nationwide amnesty ran from September to December 2024, and the special 2026 exemption for people stranded by flight disruptions ended with a final grace period on 9 July 2026. Today the normal rules apply: AED 50 a day after the grace period, with a fine waiver request possible when the fine is above AED 4,000. This guide explains who qualified in past amnesties, what the next one is likely to look like, and what overstayers and families should do now.

📢 Is there a UAE visa amnesty right now?
No. As of 15 October 2026, the UAE has not announced a general amnesty for visa violators. Anyone who stays after a visa or its grace period has ended pays the normal overstay fine of AED 50 a day. The two most recent relief schemes have both ended:
❓ What is a UAE visa amnesty?
An amnesty — also called a grace period for violators — is a government decision, announced by ICP and GDRFA, that for a few months lets people who broke the residency rules fix their situation without the usual penalties. In past amnesties violators could:
Is an amnesty the same as a grace period?
No. A grace period is the normal number of days you may stay after a visa is cancelled — 59 days for family members, usually 30 days for employees, none for visit visas. An amnesty is a rare, one-off waiver of fines for people who are already past their grace period. See our visa grace period guide for the normal days.
🗓️ When were the past UAE amnesties?
The UAE has run nationwide amnesties every few years, never on a fixed schedule:
| Year | Period | Main terms |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | From 1 August 2018, extended to the end of the year | Leave without fines or a ban, or regularise status; temporary permits to look for a job |
| 2024 | 1 September – 31 December 2024 | Fines waived, no ban for those who settled; 14-day exit permit; regularise with a new job |
| 2026 | Fines waived from 28 February; final grace 10 June – 9 July 2026 | Only for people stranded by airspace closures and flight suspensions |
| Now | October 2026 | No amnesty — AED 50 a day, waiver request above AED 4,000 |

Earlier amnesties were also held in 2007 and 2013. The gaps between them have been several years.
📋 Who could use the 2024 UAE amnesty?
The 2024 amnesty, run by ICP with GDRFA Dubai, covered most people who were in the UAE illegally before 1 September 2024:
What did the 2024 amnesty waive?
Overstay fines, Emirates ID and establishment fines, and the fees for cancellation, absconding reports and departure permits. People who chose to leave received an exit permit valid for 14 days and could leave without a ban; those who stayed past the 14 days lost the benefit and their old fines and restrictions came back.
Can I still use the 2024 amnesty?
No. It ended on 31 December 2024. A fine that was not settled then is a normal fine today.
✈️ What was the 2026 flight-disruption exemption?
In March 2026, ICP waived overstay fines counted from 28 February 2026 for visit visa holders, exit permit holders and residents with cancelled visas who could not leave because of airspace closures and flight suspensions. In June, ICP gave a final 30-day grace period from 10 June to 9 July 2026 to leave or adjust status without fines. It was not a general amnesty, and it has ended: days after 9 July 2026 are counted as normal overstay.
🧭 No amnesty: what should visa violators do now?
Settle it now — every day adds to the fine. The steps are the same in every emirate:

How much will I pay without an amnesty?
Count the days after the grace period and multiply by AED 50. Example: 30 days of overstay = AED 1,500; leaving adds about AED 450 for the exit pass, about AED 1,950 in total. 100 days = AED 5,000 — above AED 4,000, so a waiver request is worth considering.
Can I stay in the UAE if I have a large fine?
Yes, in most cases. A new sponsor — an employer, a husband, a wife or a parent — can apply for your new visa inside the country. The fine is settled with the change of status, and a waiver request can be filed first if the fine is above AED 4,000.
Will I get a ban if I leave with a fine?
A normal overstay that is paid at the airport is usually closed with the payment. Bans are linked to other records, such as absconding reports, deportation orders or court cases, and are decided by the authorities. If you have one of those, ask us to check the file before you book a flight.
👪 How should families act when there is no amnesty?
Families often discover an overstay late — a parent's visa that was never renewed, a child born in the UAE without a residence, a wife who stayed after her visa was cancelled. The sponsor can fix most of these without leaving the UAE:
🔮 When is the next amnesty in the UAE?
Nobody knows. Amnesties are announced by the government when it decides, often with a few weeks' notice, and they have come years apart. If one is announced, past amnesties suggest it will:
- cover violations up to a cut-off date before the announcement — new overstays after that date are excluded;
- waive overstay fines and related fees for a few months only;
- offer two routes — leave with an exit permit, or stay with a new visa.
This page is updated when ICP or GDRFA announce a new amnesty.
Should I wait for an amnesty or settle now?
Settle now in most cases. A month of waiting adds about AED 1,500, an overstay makes jobs, bank accounts and school places harder, and new violations are usually excluded from the next amnesty anyway.
⚠️ How can I tell if an amnesty message is fake?
🕰️ Old rules vs 2026: what changed for overstayers?

| Large fines | Paid in full or waited for an amnesty | Waiver request above AED 4,000, case by case |

❓ Frequently asked questions
1. Is there a UAE visa amnesty in 2026?
No general amnesty is active in October 2026. The last nationwide amnesty ran from September to December 2024, and the 2026 flight-disruption exemption ended with a final grace period until 9 July 2026.
2. When was the last UAE amnesty?
From 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2024. It started as a two-month amnesty and was extended by two months.
3. When is the next amnesty in the UAE?
Nobody can say. Amnesties are announced by the government without a fixed schedule, so waiting for one is risky while the overstay fine grows every day.
4. What was the 2026 flight-disruption exemption?
ICP waived overstay fines from 28 February 2026 for people who could not leave the UAE because of airspace closures and flight suspensions. A final 30-day grace period from 10 June to 9 July 2026 let them leave or adjust their status without fines.
5. Who could use the 2024 amnesty?
Residence holders who stayed after their visa or grace period ended, visit visa overstayers, people with absconding reports, and children born in the UAE whose residence was never registered. Violations that started after 1 September 2024 were excluded.
6. Did people who left under the 2024 amnesty get a ban?
No. People who settled their status during the amnesty could leave without a ban and come back later on a new visa, as long as they left within the 14-day exit permit.
7. What is the overstay fine without an amnesty?
AED 50 a day after the grace period, for every visa in every emirate. Leaving with a fine also costs an exit pass of about AED 450 at the airport.
8. Can I reduce my overstay fine without an amnesty?
When the visa fine is above AED 4,000, a waiver request can be filed with immigration. The committee approves or rejects it case by case.
9. Can I stay in the UAE and get a new visa if I have an overstay fine?
Yes. With a change of status, such as a new family visa or a new employment visa, the fine is settled during the new visa process, and the waiver option is available for large fines.
10. My wife and children overstayed. What should I do?
Check each person's fine, decide whether they stay or leave, and act now. A sponsor can renew or issue new visas inside the UAE and settle the fines, or cancel the visas and arrange the departure.
11. My child was born in the UAE and has no residence. Is there an amnesty?
Not at the moment. Apply for the child's residence now under the parent's family file. The fine for the late registration is shown on the file and is settled with the new visa.
12. Does a normal overstay lead to a ban?
A normal overstay is usually settled with the fine. Bans are linked to other cases, such as absconding reports, deportation or court cases, and are decided by the authorities.
13. How do I check if I have a fine or an absconding report?
Check the fine on ICP smart services or GDRFA Dubai with the passport details, or send the details to us on WhatsApp and we check the visa and Emirates ID fines on the file.
14. How will I know if a new amnesty is announced?
It will be announced by ICP, GDRFA or the official news agency WAM, and reported by Gulf News, Khaleej Times and The National. Ignore forwarded messages without an official source.
15. Are WhatsApp messages about a new amnesty true?
Many are old news or fake. Check the date and look for the same news on the ICP or GDRFA website before you act or pay anyone.
16. Did the 2024 amnesty waive the Emirates ID fine?
Yes. The 2024 amnesty waived overstay fines and other related fines, including Emirates ID fines, for people who qualified.
17. What happened to people who did not leave within the 2024 exit permit?
The exit permit was valid for 14 days. People who did not leave within that time lost the benefit, and their earlier fines and restrictions came back.
18. Is a grace period the same as an amnesty?
No. A grace period is the normal number of days after a visa is cancelled: 59 days for family members, usually 30 days for employees. An amnesty is a special, time-limited fine waiver.
19. Can a domestic worker who absconded use an amnesty?
Only when an amnesty is active. Right now the sponsor or the worker must follow the normal procedure for absconding cases with immigration and MOHRE.
20. How much will it cost to leave the UAE with a fine now?
The fine of AED 50 for each day of overstay plus an exit pass of about AED 450. For example, 30 days of overstay is AED 1,500 plus about AED 450.
21. Should I wait for an amnesty or settle my fine now?
Settle now in most cases. There is no announced amnesty, the fine grows by AED 50 every day, and an overstay makes jobs, school places and bank services harder.
