ILOE insurance in the UAE, explained
ILOE (Involuntary Loss of Employment) is the UAE's mandatory unemployment-insurance scheme. If you lose your job through no fault of your own, it provides a monthly cash benefit for a short period while you find new work. Subscription has been compulsory for most private-sector and federal employees since 2023.
Premiums and categories
There are two categories based on your basic salary. Category A (basic salary up to AED 16,000) costs AED 5 per month; Category B (above AED 16,000) costs AED 10 per month, plus VAT. You can pay monthly, quarterly, or annually.
ILOE fines
Not subscribing by your deadline carries an AED 400 fine, and not paying premiums for more than three months carries an AED 200 fine. Unpaid amounts can be taken from your salary or end-of-service and may stop a new work permit. If you're not sure where you stand, use the checker at the top of this page to see your status and any fines.
How to claim
To claim, you generally need at least 12 consecutive months of subscription, the job loss must be involuntary, and you must apply within 30 days of your last working day. The benefit is 60% of your average basic salary, capped at AED 10,000 per month (Category A) or AED 20,000 (Category B), for up to three months per claim.
