Maid Visa Renewal in Dubai (2026): Documents, Cost and Steps to Renew a Housemaid's Residence — When to Renew, Medical and Emirates ID, and What Happens If the Visa Has Expired
Maid visa renewal in Dubai is due every year when you sponsor a housemaid on your own file, and every 2 years if you hold a Golden Visa. You renew the health insurance, the medical fitness test, the MOHRE employment contract, the Emirates ID and the residence — but you do not need a new entry permit. The maid must be inside the UAE, her passport must be valid for at least 3 months, and you should start before the expiry date: after the grace period, the overstay fine is AED 50 a day. This guide lists the documents, the steps, the cost, and what to do if the visa has already expired.

📅 When should I renew my maid's visa?
In the last few weeks before the expiry date. The residence must be renewed before it expires. Renewing much earlier — one to six months ahead, for example because the family is travelling — needs special approval from the immigration authority, so plan around the normal window.
How do I check when my maid's visa expires?
The expiry date is on the maid's Emirates ID and in the residence record. You can check it with the passport or Emirates ID number on the ICP or GDRFA website — see our visa status check — or in your MOHRE account. Set a reminder about six weeks before the date.
📂 What documents are needed for maid visa renewal in Dubai?
MOHRE lists these documents for renewing a domestic worker's contract and residence:
Will I be asked for salary proof or an Ejari again?
Often, yes, on your own sponsorship. Keep a salary certificate or bank statements showing a household income above AED 25,000 a month, and a valid Ejari or title deed, ready to upload. If your income has dropped below the rule, ask us before renewing — moving the maid to a Tadbeer centre may be the better route.
🪜 How do I renew a maid visa in Dubai? Step by step
Since 13 October 2025, the whole renewal can be done in one application on the Work Bundle platform (Work in UAE). The MOHRE app, website and licensed service centres still work.

How long does maid visa renewal take?
MOHRE completes the contract renewal in about 1 working day. The full file — medical, Emirates ID and residence — usually finishes within about 5 working days once everything is submitted. Medical appointments are often the slowest part.
🩺 Does my maid need a new medical test, insurance and Emirates ID?
Is a medical test required for renewal?
Yes. A valid medical fitness result is a condition of the renewal, so the maid repeats the test at an approved centre (DHA centres in Dubai). The result links to the application automatically.
Is health insurance mandatory?
Yes. Every domestic worker must have health insurance paid by the employer — required in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for years, and in every emirate since 1 January 2025. Without valid insurance the residence is not renewed.
Is the Emirates ID renewed at the same time?
Yes. An Emirates ID renewal application is part of the visa renewal, and the new card carries the new residence dates. If you are not sure of the card status, see our Emirates ID status check.
💰 How much does maid visa renewal cost in Dubai?
A renewal repeats the insurance, medical, Emirates ID and residence steps, but no new entry permit, so it usually costs less than the first visa. For reference, a new 1-year maid visa on your own sponsorship costs about AED 8,000, and a Golden Visa holder pays about AED 15,000 for 2 years. The amount shown in the MOHRE or GDRFA system when you submit is final. Full comparison in our maid visa cost guide.

| DIY (Work Bundle / MOHRE app) | Amer or service centre | |
|---|---|---|
| Government fees | Amount shown in the system | Same government amount |
| Centre charge | None — MOHRE says online renewals collect only government fees | Typing / centre fee added |
| Visits | Medical and biometrics only | Centre visit + medical and biometrics |
| Help with rejections | You fix them yourself | The typist checks the file |
⏰ What happens if I renew my maid's visa late?
Once the residence and its grace period have run out, an overstay fine of AED 50 a day builds up on the file. The Emirates ID has its own late fine: AED 20 a day after 30 days, up to AED 1,000. Both are paid with the renewal. Check the amount with our visa fine check guide.
What if my maid's visa has already expired?
Renew it straight away — the fines stop growing once the file moves. If you do not want to keep the maid, cancel the visa instead and pay the fine with the cancellation; leaving the UAE with a fine also needs an exit pass of about AED 450 at the airport.
Is there a grace period after the maid visa expires?
Yes, a short grace period applies before fines start, and the system shows the exact date. Don't plan around it: renew before the expiry date. Read more in our visa grace period guide.
Can a large fine be waived?
A waiver request is possible when the fine is above AED 4,000. A committee approves or rejects it case by case, so never count on it.
What if my maid has been outside the UAE for more than 6 months?
A residence usually becomes invalid after more than 180 days outside the UAE, so it cannot simply be renewed. Ask us about a new visa — see also residence visa expired outside the UAE.

🏢 How are Tadbeer and Golden Visa maid visas renewed?
Who renews a Tadbeer maid visa?
The Tadbeer centre, because the centre is the sponsor. The visa is for 2 years; at the end you pay the centre's renewal price and keep paying the monthly fee of AED 100–150. You do not upload documents yourself. More in our Tadbeer maid visa guide.
How does a Golden Visa holder renew a maid visa?
The same steps, but the visa is issued and renewed for 2 years, at about AED 15,000 for the 2-year visa. Your own Golden Visa must stay valid for the maid's residence to be renewed.
✂️ What if I don't want to renew my maid's visa?
Cancel it before the expiry date: settle the salary and end-of-service benefit, then cancel the MOHRE work permit and the residence. The maid then has a grace period to leave or move to a new employer. See our visa cancellation guide.
Can I switch to Tadbeer instead of renewing?
Yes. Many families do this when the income rule or the paperwork becomes a burden. You cancel your sponsorship and a Tadbeer centre issues a new 2-year visa under the centre, for about AED 7,000–9,000. Time it with the expiry date to avoid fines.
