UAE Golden Visa for Nurses (2026): Who Qualifies, the 15-Year Dubai Health Rule, Private Hospital Nurses, Documents, Steps, Cost and Family Sponsorship

The UAE Golden Visa for nurses is not one open category that every nurse can apply for. In May 2025 Dubai granted the 10-year Golden Visa to Dubai Health nurses with more than 15 years of service; every other nurse — in a private hospital, in Abu Dhabi or in another emirate — needs one of the general routes: a nomination by a health authority, the salary route for senior nursing managers, or the property route. This guide explains who qualifies, how to apply for the Golden Visa as a nurse, the documents, the government fees (about AED 4,137 for the main applicant) and how to sponsor your family for 10 years.

🩺 THE SHORT ANSWER
Nurses get the Golden Visa through Dubai Health's 15-year rule, a health authority nomination, or the salary or property route.
There is no automatic Golden Visa for every nurse. Dubai Health staff with 15+ years were covered in May 2025. Others need a nomination (DHA, DoH or MOHAP), an AED 30,000 basic salary as a manager, or property worth AED 2,000,000. Government fees are about AED 4,137 per adult on a 10-year visa, and your spouse, children and parents can join you.

🩺 Who qualifies for the UAE Golden Visa as a nurse?

Being a licensed nurse is not enough on its own. The Golden Visa is issued by ICP (the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) and, for Dubai residence, GDRFA Dubai, and each nurse must fit one of these routes:

✓Dubai Health nurses with more than 15 years of service — nurses and midwives at Dubai Health, covered by the Crown Prince of Dubai's directive of 12 May 2025.
✓Nomination by a health authority — DHA in Dubai, the Department of Health (DoH) in Abu Dhabi or MOHAP in the other emirates recommends outstanding healthcare professionals. Case by case.
✓Salary route — AED 30,000 basic salary in the MOHRE contract, more than 2 years in the same company, more than 20 employees, a graduate degree and a manager-level designation.
✓Property route — property worth AED 2,000,000 gives the 10-year Golden Visa to anyone, nurse or not.
✕A staff nurse with 5 or 10 years in a private clinic does not qualify just through her job title — she needs one of the routes above.

🏥 What is the Dubai Health 15-year rule for nurses?

On 12 May 2025 — International Nurses Day — Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, directed that the Golden Visa be granted to nurses at Dubai Health who have served more than 15 years. Dubai Health told Gulf News that more than 1,400 of its roughly 4,400 nursing staff were eligible, long-serving midwives included.

Do Dubai Health nurses need to apply themselves?

The directive was coordinated through Dubai Health as the employer, so eligible staff were identified from its records. If you have more than 15 years at Dubai Health and your residence has not been changed to a Golden Visa, ask your HR department first, then message us: we check your file and complete the remaining steps — medical test, Emirates ID and family visas.

Does the 15-year rule apply to other hospitals?

No. The directive names Dubai Health staff only. Years at another government hospital, a private hospital or abroad do not count towards it. Those nurses use the other routes below.

🏨 Can nurses in private hospitals get the Golden Visa?

Yes, but not through the Dubai Health rule. A nurse at a private hospital or clinic has three realistic options:

📨
1. Health authority nomination
Your hospital can support a request to DHA, DoH or MOHAP to recognise you as an outstanding healthcare professional. ICP lists healthcare specialists recommended by the health authority as a Golden Visa category. It is selective and decided case by case.
💼
2. Salary route
For nursing directors and nurse managers: AED 30,000 basic salary, more than 2 years in the same company, a company with more than 20 employees, a graduate degree and a manager-level designation. See our Golden Visa for managers guide.
🏠
3. Property route
Property worth AED 2,000,000 in your name gives a 10-year Golden Visa whatever your job. See Golden Visa for property owners.
⚠️
Beware of 'guaranteed nurse Golden Visa' offers. No agent can promise a nomination. ICP or GDRFA decides every application, and a health authority decides every nomination.

What about the frontline heroes Golden Visa?

In 2021 and 2022 the UAE granted Golden Visas to more than 30,000 frontline workers — many of them nurses — for their work during the pandemic. That was a nomination programme, not an open application: a nurse who worked during COVID-19 cannot apply for it today on that basis alone.

📂 What documents does a nurse need for the Golden Visa?

The exact list depends on the route, but most nurses need:

1
Passport (valid for at least 6 months) and a recent photo on a white background.
2
Current residence or Emirates ID — or an entry permit if you are outside the UAE.
3
Nursing licence from DHA, DoH or MOHAP, valid on the date you apply.
4
Nursing degree — attested in the home country, by the UAE embassy and by MOFA. See our MOFA attestation guide.
5
Service or experience letter from the hospital, showing your start date and position.
6
Route document: the nomination or recommendation letter, the DoH verification letter, or the MOHRE contract and salary certificate (salary route), or the title deed (property route).
7
Health insurance for you and, later, for each family member.
💡
Check the basic salary line. For the salary route, only the basic salary in the MOHRE contract counts — housing and other allowances do not.

🪜 How do I apply for the Golden Visa in the UAE as a nurse?

There are three ways to submit: online yourself with UAE Pass (ICP smart services, or GDRFA Dubai for a Dubai residence), at an Amer centre or typing centre, or through FamilyVisa.ae. The steps are the same:

⏱️ How long does the Golden Visa take for nurses?

The application itself is usually quick; the nomination is the slow part. Once eligibility is clear, the ICP or GDRFA application usually takes about 3 to 5 working days, then a few days for the medical test and Emirates ID. A nomination from a health authority has no fixed timeline — it can take weeks, and it may be refused.

💰 How much does the Golden Visa cost for a nurse?

About AED 4,137 in government fees for the main applicant on a 10-year visa — a one-time payment, not a yearly fee. Property owners pay extra Dubai Land Department fees. Full details are in our Golden Visa cost guide.

👪 Can a nurse sponsor her family on a Golden Visa?

Yes. A Golden Visa holder sponsors family members for the same period as the Golden Visa — up to 10 years — without the usual AED 4,000 family visa salary rule. Read our Golden Visa for family dependents guide.

✓Spouse: wife or husband. A woman holding a Golden Visa can sponsor her husband; the authority may ask for more documents.
✓Children: sons up to 25, daughters at any age while unmarried, children with special needs without an age limit.
✓Parents: mother and father, for the same validity as your Golden Visa.
iDocuments: attested marriage and birth certificates (home country, UAE embassy, MOFA) with Arabic translation where needed; medical test for family members 18 and over.

🧳 What happens after approval?

Can I change hospitals on a Golden Visa?

Yes. The Golden Visa is not tied to your employer, so changing hospitals does not cancel it. Your new employer still issues a MOHRE work permit (or the health authority registration) for the job itself. If your visa came through the salary route, renewal checks the conditions again.

Can I stay outside the UAE for more than six months?

Yes — the Golden Visa is not cancelled after 180 days abroad. This helps nurses who return home for long family reasons.

How is the nurse Golden Visa renewed?

After 10 years it is renewed if you still meet the conditions of your route. See our Golden Visa renewal guide.

❓ Frequently asked questions

1. Can nurses get a Golden Visa in the UAE?

Yes, but not automatically. Nurses at Dubai Health with more than 15 years of service were granted the Golden Visa in May 2025. Other nurses qualify through a nomination from a health authority, the salary route or the property route, and ICP or GDRFA decides each application.

2. Which nurses got the Golden Visa in Dubai?

Nursing staff and midwives employed by Dubai Health who have served more than 15 years. More than 1,400 nurses were covered by the directive issued on 12 May 2025, International Nurses Day.

3. Do nurses in private hospitals qualify for the Golden Visa?

Not through the Dubai Health directive, which covers Dubai Health staff only. A private-hospital nurse can still qualify through a nomination by the health authority (DHA, DoH or MOHAP), the salary route as a nurse manager, or the property route. Each case is decided by ICP or GDRFA.

4. How many years of experience does a nurse need for the Golden Visa?

For the Dubai Health route, more than 15 years of service. Other routes have their own conditions: the salary route needs more than 2 years in the same company, and nominations depend on the health authority's assessment.

5. How do I apply for the Golden Visa as a nurse?

Confirm your route first. Then apply online through ICP or GDRFA with UAE Pass, at an Amer centre, or through FamilyVisa.ae, with your passport, photo, nursing licence, degree and the nomination or salary documents. After approval you do the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics.

6. How long does the nurse Golden Visa take?

Once the nomination or eligibility is confirmed, the ICP or GDRFA application usually takes about 3 to 5 working days, plus the medical test and Emirates ID. Getting a nomination letter from a health authority can take longer and is not time-bound.

7. How much does the Golden Visa cost for a nurse?

Government fees are about AED 4,137 for the main applicant on a 10-year visa: AED 2,710 immigration and visa, AED 1,154 Emirates ID and AED 273 standard medical. The amount shown in the ICP or GDRFA system when you apply is final.

8. Can a nurse sponsor her family on a Golden Visa?

Yes. A Golden Visa holder can sponsor a spouse, children and parents, and the family visas run for the same period as the Golden Visa. Sons can be sponsored up to 25 and daughters at any age while unmarried.

9. How much does a Golden Visa cost for my child?

About AED 3,864 in government fees for a child under 18 on a 10-year visa, because no medical test is needed. A spouse or parent costs about AED 4,137.

10. Can a nurse get the Golden Visa through the salary route?

Yes, if all conditions are met: AED 30,000 basic salary in the MOHRE contract, more than 2 years in the same company, a company with more than 20 employees, a graduate degree or higher, and a designation of manager or higher. This usually fits nursing directors and nurse managers.

11. Does a nurse's total salary count for the Golden Visa?

No. The salary route looks at the basic salary in the MOHRE contract, which must be AED 30,000. Allowances do not count.

12. What documents does a nurse need for the Golden Visa?

Passport, a recent photo, the current residence or Emirates ID, the nursing licence from DHA, DoH or MOHAP, the attested nursing degree, an experience or service letter, and the nomination letter or the MOHRE contract and salary certificate, depending on the route.

13. Does my nursing degree need to be attested?

Yes, for most routes. A degree from outside the UAE is attested in the home country, by the UAE embassy and by MOFA in the UAE. The salary route also needs a graduate degree or higher.

14. Can a nurse buy property to get the Golden Visa?

Yes. Property worth AED 2 million qualifies for the 10-year Golden Visa, whatever your job. A property of any value gives a 2-year property investor visa.

15. Do I lose my nurse Golden Visa if I change hospitals?

The Golden Visa is not sponsored by the employer, so a job change does not cancel it. If your Golden Visa came through the salary route, keep your documents in order for renewal, which is checked again.

16. Is the Golden Visa for nurses valid for 10 years?

Yes. The Golden Visa is a 10-year residence, renewable, and the Emirates ID is issued for the same period.

17. Can a nurse on a Golden Visa stay outside the UAE for more than six months?

Yes. The Golden Visa is not cancelled by staying abroad for more than 180 days, unlike a normal residence visa.

18. What happens to my family if my Golden Visa is cancelled?

The family visas are linked to your file, so they must be cancelled or moved to a new sponsor. If a Golden Visa sponsor dies, the family can stay until their residence permits expire.

19. Can a nurse in Abu Dhabi get the Golden Visa?

Yes, through the healthcare route if she meets the criteria: the Department of Health issues a verification letter about the licence, and the Abu Dhabi Residents Office or ICP decides the application. The salary and property routes also apply.

20. Is the frontline heroes Golden Visa still available for nurses?

Golden Visas were granted to frontline workers after the pandemic in 2021 and 2022. Today the frontline category works by nomination: there is no open application for every nurse who worked during COVID-19.
