UAE Golden Visa for Students (2026): Eligibility for School Toppers and University Graduates, the 95% and GPA Rules, Documents, How to Apply, Cost and Family Coverage

The UAE Golden Visa for students rewards outstanding results with a 10-year residence that needs no sponsor. Three groups qualify: Grade 12 graduates of UAE schools with 95% or higher, graduates of the world's top 100 universities with a GPA of 3.5, and graduates of UAE universities with a GPA of 3.5 (Category A) or 3.8 (Category B) — the university routes within two years of graduation. This guide explains the criteria for school and university students, the documents, how to apply, the government fees (about AED 4,137 for a student aged 18 or over) and what it means for the family.

🎓 THE SHORT ANSWER
Top students get a 10-year Golden Visa: 95% in Grade 12 in the UAE, or a GPA of 3.5 or 3.8 from a qualifying university.
The certificate is attested by the Ministry of Education, a school, university or education authority nomination or letter supports the application, and ICP decides. Government fees are about AED 4,137 (AED 3,864 under 18), and the visa stays valid while the student studies abroad.

🎓 Who qualifies for the UAE Golden Visa as a student?

ICP (the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) lists three groups of outstanding students:

GroupGrade or GPAOther conditions
Grade 12 graduates in the UAE95% or higher (or equivalent)Public school or private school licensed by the Ministry of Education or the local authority; certificate attested by the Ministry
Graduates of international universitiesGPA 3.5 (bachelor's)Top 100 in the ranking recognised by the Ministry; within 2 years of graduation; degree attested
Graduates of UAE universitiesGPA 3.5 (Category A) or 3.8 (Category B)Bachelor's, master's or PhD; Ministry-licensed university; within 2 years; degree attested
✕Not enough on its own: admission to a university, a scholarship, or being enrolled at a top university without a finished degree.
✕Not covered by the Grade 12 route: students who finished school outside the UAE — they can use the university routes later.

🏫 How can school students get the Golden Visa?

A student who finishes Grade 12 in the UAE with 95% or higher — or the equivalent in a CBSE, British, American, IB or other curriculum — qualifies. The school must be a public school or a private school licensed by the Ministry of Education or the local authority, and the Grade 12 certificate is attested by the Ministry of Education.

Who nominates school students?

In Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Residents Office explains it clearly: for public schools and private schools following the Ministry curriculum, the application goes to the Ministry of Education for its recommendation; for other private schools, ADEK nominates students at the end of each academic year and sends them an invitation to apply. In the other emirates, ask the school how it submits the recommendation to the Ministry or the local authority.

Does my child need to be 18?

No. Many Grade 12 graduates are 17. A student under 18 needs no medical test, so the government fees are lower — about AED 3,864 instead of AED 4,137. A parent normally signs and pays on behalf of a minor.

How is 95% measured for CBSE or British students?

As the equivalent of 95% in the final results of your curriculum — the Ministry or the local authority decides how a CBSE percentage, A-level grades or an IB score are converted. Ask the school before the results come out.

🏛️ Can university students get the Golden Visa?

Yes — after graduation. The ICP criteria are written for graduates who finished a degree in the last two years:

🌍
Top 100 university abroad
A bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 from a university in the top 100 of the international ranking recognised by the Ministry. The degree needs the Ministry's equivalency.
🏛️
UAE university, Category A
Bachelor's, master's or PhD with a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0, from a Ministry-licensed university classified as Category A.
🏫
UAE university, Category B
The same, with a GPA of at least 3.8 out of 4.0, from a university classified as Category B.

What about students who are still studying?

The u.ae page still mentions top university students with certificates of excellence and a recommendation letter from the university. In practice, current students are assessed case by case; most students apply once the degree and GPA are final.

Can I apply three years after graduating?

No — the university routes need no more than two years since graduation. After that, look at the other routes, such as the salary route or special talents.

⏱️ How long does the student Golden Visa take?

After the nomination or recommendation, the ICP application usually takes about 3 to 5 working days, then a few days for the medical test and Emirates ID. The nomination step follows the school or university calendar — ADEK, for example, nominates at the end of each academic year — and attestation of a foreign degree can take several weeks.

Can a graduate apply from outside the UAE?

Yes. ICP gives an applicant abroad a six-month multiple-entry visa, renewable once, to enter and finish the medical test and Emirates ID.

💰 How much does the Golden Visa cost for students?

About AED 4,137 in government fees for a student aged 18 or over and AED 3,864 for a student under 18 — a one-time payment for 10 years. See the full breakdown in our Golden Visa cost guide.

Is it cheaper to apply online?

Online with UAE Pass you pay only the government fees; a typing or Amer centre adds its own fee on top. Attestation, translation and health insurance are extra. Fees as paid by FamilyVisa.ae on 15 October 2026; the amount in the ICP system when you submit is final.

👪 Does the student Golden Visa cover the family?

In 2021 the UAE granted Golden Visas to top high school students and their families. Under ICP's current criteria the Golden Visa is issued to the student; whether parents and siblings are included is decided by ICP case by case, so ask us before you apply. Read our Golden Visa for family dependents guide.

Does the student stay on the parent's family visa?

No. The Golden Visa is self-sponsored, so the student's old dependent residence is replaced. The parent no longer renews a visa for that child.

Why does this matter for sons?

A parent can sponsor a son only up to 25 (daughters at any age while unmarried). A son who qualifies as a top graduate can move to his own 10-year Golden Visa instead of looking for another visa at 25.

Can a student Golden Visa holder sponsor a family later?

Yes. Like any Golden Visa holder, a graduate can later sponsor a spouse and children for the same validity.

✈️ Can I study abroad with a UAE Golden Visa?

Yes — this is one of the biggest benefits. A normal residence is cancelled after more than 180 days outside the UAE; the Golden Visa is not. A Grade 12 graduate can go to university abroad and keep the UAE residence for 10 years. See our Golden Visa benefits guide.

Can I work on a student Golden Visa?

Yes. It is not tied to a job: any employer can hire you with the normal MOHRE work permit, and you can change jobs freely.

How is it renewed after 10 years?

Renewal follows the rules in force at that time. See our Golden Visa renewal guide.

A GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 for a bachelor's degree from a top 100 international university or a Category A UAE university, and 3.8 for a Category B UAE university.

4. How do I apply for the Golden Visa as a student?

5. Do students from private schools qualify?

Yes, if the school is licensed by the Ministry of Education or the local authority and the student scores 95% or the equivalent. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK nominates private school graduates at the end of each academic year and sends them an invitation to apply.

6. Do CBSE, British or American curriculum students qualify?

Yes, the grade is measured as the equivalent of 95% in your curriculum. The Ministry of Education or the local authority decides the equivalence, so ask your school how it applies to your final results.

7. Can I get the Golden Visa just by getting admission to a university?

No. Admission alone does not qualify. The university route is for graduates who finished a degree with the required GPA within the last two years.

8. Which universities qualify for the student Golden Visa?

Outside the UAE: universities in the top 100 of the international ranking recognised by the Ministry of Education (bachelor's degrees). In the UAE: universities licensed by the Ministry and classified as Category A or B.

9. How long after graduation can I apply?

No more than two years after graduation for the university routes. Apply soon after you receive your degree and the attestation.

10. How long is the student Golden Visa valid?

12. Does the student Golden Visa cover my parents and siblings?
