Family Visa Renewal in Dubai (2026): Cost, Documents and Steps for Employees, Investors and Partners

Renewing your family's residence visas in Dubai is simpler — and much cheaper — than applying for new ones. Your spouse and children are already in the UAE, so there is no entry permit, no e-visa and no change of status: the renewal starts directly with the medical test (adults only) and the Emirates ID. The government fees are the same for employees, investors and partners; only the sponsor's documents differ.

In short: renewal costs AED 1,037 per adult (medical 273 + Emirates ID 354 + visa 410) and AED 764 per child (Emirates ID 354 + visa 410). Emirates ID biometrics are usually not needed — only a child who has just turned 15 gives them for the first time. Investors and partners add the trade licence and MOA to the documents. A Dubai family visa needs no Ejari and no medical insurance.

Family visa renewal in Dubai — medical test, Emirates ID and visa fees for adults and children

✅ 1. What changes at renewal

A new family visa brings someone into the UAE residence system. A renewal only extends a residence your family already has, so several steps drop out:

New family visa
  • Entry permit (e-visa)
  • Enter the UAE or change status
  • Medical test (18+)
  • Emirates ID + biometrics (15+)
  • Residence visa
Renewal
  • Medical test (18+)
  • Emirates ID — biometrics usually not needed
  • Residence visa
No entry permit, no e-visa, no change of status.

📄 2. Documents for renewal: employees vs investors and partners

The fees are the same for everyone; the documents depend on how you hold your own residence:

👔 Employee sponsor
  • Passport copy
  • UAE residence visa copy
  • Emirates ID copy
Rule: salary of AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 + company accommodation.
💼 Investor / partner sponsor
  • Passport copy
  • UAE residence visa copy
  • Emirates ID copy
  • Trade licence of the company
  • Memorandum of Association (MOA)
Rule: your share over AED 75,000, as per the MOA.

For each family member:

  1. 1Passport copy
  2. 2Passport-size photograph
  3. 3Emirates ID copy

Additional documents may be requested depending on the individual case. Digital copies are enough to start — you can send them on WhatsApp.

💰 4. Family visa renewal cost 2026: full fee breakdown

Renewing a Dubai family visa costs AED 1,037 per adult and AED 764 per child — the same for employees, investors and partners. These are the government fees, item by item, as calculated by the FamilyVisa.ae Visa Calculator on 6 October 2026:

  • VIP medical: AED 703 instead of AED 273 (AED 430 more per adult) for a result in about 30 minutes.
  • Cheaper than a new visa: an adult renewal is AED 339 less than a new visa from outside the UAE (AED 1,376) and AED 1,619 less than a new visa inside the UAE (AED 2,656) — for investors and partners, AED 1,777 less (AED 2,814).
  • “Visa Stamping” is the government's name for the residence visa fee (AED 410) — the visa itself is issued digitally.

⏰
Renew before the visa expires. After the grace period, overstay fines are charged per day for each family member — start in the weeks before the expiry date. Not sure of the exact date? Check the visa status free.

🏥 5. No medical insurance, no Ejari (Dubai)

For a Dubai family visa renewal, medical insurance is not required and no Ejari or tenancy contract is required. In other emirates, both are mandatory for the visa.

🚩
Some agencies bundle an insurance policy with the renewal because they earn a commission on it. Health cover is a sensible personal choice for living in Dubai — but it is not a condition of a Dubai dependent visa.
