Always go by the date. UAE rules and government fees change over time. We keep earlier answers for reference rather than deleting them, so if two answers seem to differ, the one with the most recent “Updated” date is the current one.
What does the visa medical test include?
A blood test and a chest X-ray. It screens for HIV and pulmonary tuberculosis; certain job categories — domestic workers, teachers, healthcare and food workers — are screened for additional conditions such as hepatitis B.

Who has to take the medical test?

How much does it cost and how fast are results?

By SMS and email, and the certificate links electronically to your immigration file — there is nothing to print or submit manually.

Do I need to fast before the blood test?
No fasting is needed — eat and drink normally. Just bring your original passport and a copy of your visa application or entry permit.

I'm pregnant — do I still need the X-ray?
No. Pregnant applicants are exempt from the chest X-ray and complete the blood test only; the X-ray is deferred until after delivery. Tell the centre and carry a pregnancy confirmation letter.

Do I need the X-ray again when renewing my visa?
Often not — since 2025, renewal applicants in Dubai with a clean screening history may qualify for a blood-test-only renewal without a new X-ray. The centre confirms your eligibility at booking.

What happens if the result is 'unfit'?
It depends on the finding. Old or healed TB scars usually lead to a conditional fitness certificate with a one-year visa and medical follow-up, while certain infectious conditions make an applicant ineligible for residence. A confirmatory re-test can be requested within the appeal window. We advise discreetly on individual cases.

How long is the medical certificate valid?
90 days from issue — your visa application must be completed within that window, otherwise the test has to be repeated.
