Always go by the date. UAE rules and government fees change over time. We keep earlier answers for reference rather than deleting them, so if two answers seem to differ, the one with the most recent “Updated” date is the current one.
How long do I have to arrange my newborn's visa?
120 days from the date of birth for a baby born in the UAE. Within that window you need the birth certificate, attestation, the baby's passport and the residence visa — so it's best to start the paperwork in the first week.
What's the fine if I miss the 120-day deadline?
AED 100 per day until the residence visa is issued, and the baby cannot travel out of the UAE until the visa is stamped and any fines are settled.
What's the correct order of steps for a baby born in Dubai?
Birth certificate from the hospital and DHA (with English translation), attestation of the certificate, the baby's passport from your consulate, then the residence visa file with GDRFA, and finally the Emirates ID with health insurance. We run the stages in parallel wherever possible to beat the deadline.
What documents do I need for a newborn visa?
The attested birth certificate, the baby's passport, both parents' passports and visas, the attested marriage certificate, the sponsor's salary certificate and Ejari, photos, and health insurance for the baby.
Does my newborn need a medical test?
No — the medical fitness test only applies from age 18. Newborns and children skip it entirely.
Does my baby need an Emirates ID?
Yes, every resident including infants needs an Emirates ID. No fingerprints are taken under age 15, so the baby does not need to appear for biometrics.
Can the mother sponsor the newborn?
Yes, if she meets the criteria — mothers in professions such as medicine, engineering or teaching can sponsor at the standard salary level, while others typically need a higher income (around AED 10,000+) and special GDRFA approval in Dubai.
My baby was born outside the UAE — what's the process?
Get the baby's passport first, then we apply for an entry permit through GDRFA/ICP so the baby can enter the UAE, and complete the residence visa and Emirates ID after arrival. Start as soon as possible after birth to stay clear of deadlines and fines.
The consulate is slow issuing the passport — will I be fined?
There's no automatic waiver, but immigration can reduce or waive fines on request when you can prove the delay (for example, embassy correspondence). We prepare and submit waiver requests with the right supporting evidence.
Does the baby need health insurance?
Yes — a policy compliant with Dubai's Essential Benefits Plan must be in place before the Emirates ID is issued. Many insurers cover newborns under the mother's policy for the first 30 days, but the baby needs their own policy for the visa.
