Always go by the date. UAE rules and government fees change over time. We keep earlier answers for reference rather than deleting them, so if two answers seem to differ, the one with the most recent “Updated” date is the current one.
How much does an Emirates ID cost?
AED 100 per year of validity plus a service fee — about AED 170 for 1 year, AED 270 for 2 years and AED 370 for 3 years. Applying online costs AED 40 in service fees versus AED 70 at a typing centre.
What's the fine for an expired Emirates ID?
AED 20 per day of delay, capped at AED 1,000 — so renew before the card expires. For residents the ID is tied to the visa, so we always process the two renewals together.
How long does it take to get the card?
Typically about 48 hours after biometrics for standard applications, plus delivery time. The Fawri urgent service issues it within 24 hours for an extra AED 150.
I lost my Emirates ID — what now?
Report it and apply for a replacement: AED 300 plus the service fee, with the new card normally ready within 48 hours — or 24 hours with Fawri. We can file it for you the same day.
How do I renew my Emirates ID?
Through the ICP app or website, a typing centre, or through us. A resident's Emirates ID renews together with the residence visa, so we handle both in one go and the dates always match.
Is the Emirates ID my visa now?
Effectively yes — since 2022 no residence visa sticker is placed in passports; your Emirates ID carries your residency details, and the digital visa can be shown through the ICP and UAE Pass apps.
Do children need an Emirates ID?
Yes, residents of every age need one, including newborns. Fingerprint biometrics start only at age 15, so younger children don't need to attend in person.
What Emirates ID do Golden Visa holders get?
A card valid for the full visa term — 5 or 10 years — instead of the usual 1–3 year cards, so you skip frequent renewals.
How do I track my Emirates ID application?
Through the ICP app or website using your application number — status updates also arrive by SMS, including when the card is ready for collection or courier delivery.
Do I have to carry my Emirates ID?
Yes — residents must hold a valid Emirates ID, and it's the key document for banking, SIM cards, insurance, clinics and government services. Carry the card or the digital version in the UAE Pass app.
